IDITAROD IN ANCHORAGE - March 5, 2011

We attended the ceremonial start of the Iditarod. We had a great location from which to watch. Nearly every team stopped right in front of us on the way to the start line. One team caught our eye. This is musher Wattie McDonald from Scotland. You can see that his team, his handlers, his color guard, and all his helpers are decked out in traditional Scottish regalia. Note: He did not wear his kilt the next day at the start of the actual race. :>)

(If you are new to my blog, there is an Iditarod post in my past postings.
You can see more race pictures there).

The person in the sled is an Iditarider.
You can bid at auction for the chance to ride in the sled during the ceremonial start.
