July 4 - Seward Mount Marathon

On July 4th, we went to Seward. They have a montain race called the Mount Marathon. It is a grueling race up a mountain and back down. The fastest runners make if under an hour. The original race is said to have started by two men who bet each other about the possiblity of this race being done in under an hour. The first race was finished in 58 minutes. Now they run it in about 48 minutes. We were standing right beside Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin as she prepared to be the official started for the race. They had lots of vendors and most of the food was homemade. The favorite vendor was the one who sold deep fried halibut chunks. There was always a line at his shop.
